Welcome to the UNOFFICIAL website of Castletown and Derbyhaven Motorboat and Yacht Club (CDMYC) the friendliest club with probably the longest name in the UK. This website reports on Club activities on and off the water, however as the site is not adopted by the Club the views expressed here may not reflect those of the Club or Committee,Example 1 but it is the place for all the latest racing news.

The aim of CDMYC is to support the enjoyment of the sea through either fishing, sailing or social yacht racing.  As a Club we don’t have the complex politics of running a club house or trying to develop sailing classes.  We run a schedule of races from late April through to, in some years, late October.  Anyone with a yacht can join in, we allocate provisional handicaps and adjust after a few races, the priority is enjoyment and participation.  Currently our fleet is made up of  traditional gaff rigged “Castletown One Designs” cruisers, cruiser racers, dinghys and multihulls.  The Club arrange social sailing events which in past years have included a sunset cruise, afternoon cruises and barbeque’s or picnics and for those hardy souls longer distance cruises.

Unlike other clubs we don’t limit ourselves to just sailing,  throughout the summer there’s a very active fishing section with the club holding a number of  competions for members.  These are certainly as closely contested as the yacht races with reputations made and lost in a single cast.

The course for the seasons yacht racing is within the picturesque setting of Castletown Bay and uses a single fixed course of Triangle, Sausage, Triangle, all marks to Port.  The start line is between the Pier Head and a laid mark with the first leg out to the Bell Buoy in the middle of the Bay, round the Bell and it’s down toward the Beach and the Sandwick Mark, a laid orange mark, round here and back to the outer limit mark of the start line.  Again port round the outer limit, back to Sandwick and back to the start completes the sausage  just leaving the final Triangle to complete the race.1 Design  Check the chart on the Race Marks page.

During those long winter months we don’t hibernate but have monthly get togethers for members offering informative talks from various local celebrities, nautical quiz nights or just a slide show of nautical photos.
