CDMYC member wins Island Dinghy Championship

Over the August bank holiday IOMYC hosted the Island Dinghy Championship with Tom Cringle and Andy Williams yet again competing.
Having frequently been runners up over the past years they were fairly dubious about success and breaking the domination of Russ and June Collister, champions for the past 7 years. Saturday had three races scheduled but due to the increasing wind strength and a broken laser mast it was reduced to two races, with Tom and Andy securing a 2nd and 3rd and sitting second overall behind the old war horse Mick Kneale but not happy with their upwind power due to lack of weight.
Sunday dawned for the 4 race programme with slightly less wind but a bigger sea, the guys gambled on a slightly altered rig setting, subtle changes can either pay off or totally ruin the boat speed and pay off it did, with greater upwind speed and being able to unleash the full power of the 400 off the wind.
The rescue rib struggled to keep pace on some downwind legs.
With a results tally of three firsts and a second from Sunday coupled with Saturdays results it gave them the smallest of margins to take first place and the Championship. For a comprehensive report, full finishers list and professional photos from David Kneale follow the Manxsailracer link.
Old war-horse? Now, now young whippersnapper. I’m still only a junior member of the Cadbury’s Dairy Milk YC - (no bus-pass yet) I should have the gaffer sailing by the time my free train tickets appear (2012). I’ll whore-hoarse yer then - damn upstarts…
Oh, and the boys did well to win the championship, of course - the CT Triangle, it ain’t!
