Race 3, 16-05-10
Posted By admin on May 16, 2010
Well certainly no volcanic ash or coalition worries for the latest CDMYC race with 14 boats lining up for the start in excellent conditions of bright and fairly breezy weather. After a recall last week there was no mistake from Rupert Bear with a clean departure neck and neck with Martin in the Topper Xenon, they were closely followed by JQ jnr in Dilemma and the rest of the fleet all well bunched up with a scutch of COD’s blanketing the line and surprisingly Mike in Shearwater behind them all. Unfortunately Keith in Rosie B struggled with the concept of the starting sequence and followed a good half leg behind the fleet along with Mike in Raven. Interestingly the only tactical leg was from Sandwick to the Harbour mark with those tacking early gaining slightly on those that stayed inland towards the promenade. Given this leg was sailed three times it proved significant in judging the lifts and knocks. However on the last leg a slight windshift gave the chasing boats a slight advantage over the first three in not getting the knock that dominated the early legs.

The notable skeet from today’s race would be the performance of Tuvag and that of Mike in Raven, Tuvag shot into contention with a real solid performance and whilst everyone speculated on what changes Tom had made the only real conclusion was that (ship) Rex was on board, he is available to crew for the next race (three pints of lager and two small bottles of white wine). With regard to Mike, it’s always easy to look at results after the event and speculate why a Did Not Finish warrants a mention, lets face it he didn’t finish! But when you consider his one crew members’ age was in single figures he follows the long tradition in Castletown started by Howard Killey in Jubillee of bringing youngsters into sailing. Maybe we should have a handicap incentive for this, after all it’s how most of us started.
Hopefully photos from today’s race will be available, look for the link.
Hi, Just wondered when the race 3 results will be posted?
You are in trouble! Sailing is a team effort and whilst Rex’s contribution was significant, Randi the other member of the team is miffed that she did not rate a mention and puts it down to the fact that she is female, blonde, scandinavian and therefore not worth a mention amongst macho sailors. On Norwegian National Day this is a serious omission and you may have to bear the consequences of a berserker Viking.
Any tickets left for this bout please?
Well at least this proves someone reads the web site and i’m not flogging a dead horse! I’ll get the mud pit set up for the bout.
