Race 4 - 30-05-10

Posted By admin on May 30, 2010

A momentous day in Castletown when the upside down crown was finally stolen from under the nose of JQ jnr.  Sorry Mark, but i bet you knew this was coming and the photo evidence will be uploaded!

Just a taster,

Anyone seen my hat?

Anyone seen my hat?

On a moderate to fresh day the fourth race took place and with a flukeyNW wind coming through the Town it was always going to be a difficult sail.  At the gun Tuvag was first across closely followed by Rupert Bear, Amy, Mark in the Topper, Rosie B, Alice and Lilly, Raven and lastly Wild Wave.  Soon to be re-christened Wild Rocks after yet another visit to the Bollan Rock under the Nautical Museum.

Rupert soon overtook Tuvag but failed to open an advantage on the first leg with Amy keeping pace in third and Mark in fourth who was immediately caught by a nasty gust through the Town resulting in everything going pear shaped.   Keel up, mast down …………… not good and unfortunately ending their race.  Following behind were the remaining four 1 designs.  At least they didn’t run him down!

After the sausage three of the 1 designs decided enough was enough and came in leaving only Brian in Amy and Keith in Rosie B,  both sailing single handed, to keep the 1 design hopes alive.  Rupert continued to lead on the water with Tuvag second, Amy third and Rosie fourth but all fairly well spread out making it a procession to the finish.

Irrespective of the comments after the last race it still looks like Tuvag with Rexxie as crew are the ones to beat with another “solid” performance, even with a dodgy gooseneck (boat not Rex) and a new eco system growing on the hull.

Thanks to John Moon for OOD and rescue boat duties.

I would just like to publicly thank John and his crew in the rescue boat on sunday. The tip of the mast was firmly stuck in the rocks and didn’t want to go anywhere without John’s help, so thank you.
