Cregeen Cup

After a blustery afternoon with upwards of 18kts NW everyone except Rupert Bear milled around the start with various reefs in the main, but the good old fickle wind decided to drop just before the first gun prompting some to quickly shake them out. However Mark and Peter in the Topper, having fitted a flotation pad to the main sail after the previous weeks inversion still decided to leave the reef in, good move guys you were spotted scrambling to the high side on one occasion! From the off Rupert B launched the kite and opened a slim lead on the rest of the fleet, the Topper flying their asymentric gave chase in second place. Third came Tuvag, looking to hang on to the leaders and repeat their previous weeks result, next was Brian in Amy, Keith in Rosie B, Rupert in Esk (now this could get confusing, 2 Ruperts) and finally Sandy helming Gilly. Unfortunately with a falling wind the battle was firmly between the helms and the lifts and knocks from the wind as it became patchy through the Town. There looked to be a bit of a ruck on the first lap at the Sandwick mark between the Topper PMT and Tuvag who had to give water and this was an advantage that was never relinquished.
Unfortunately for those spectating who stuck it out on the pier it was a procession with no tactical advantage from different routes but just a race to grind it out to the finish. Rupert Bear crossed the line first, followed by PMT, Tuvag, Amy, Rosie B and Esk who lost his sheet on the big jib costing him time on the last lap.
Unfortunately no damning stories from the race, only a puzzle; why would Tuvag’s crew have to get straight ashore and rush off home to change? Strange things happen on that boat.
Thanks to John Hellowell for OOD duties, even though he did comment that was “bl*”^y boring” and also to Tony for out of hours bridge duties.
Next race the J H-H single hander, now that’s always good for drama.
