Cregeen 2 - the OOD’s report

Posted By admin on June 9, 2010

A prompt 6pm start (the OOD would have to say that) saw 7 boats over the start line with John Cringle in Rupert Bear taking the lead. The promising start was exciting as all boats crossed the start line, tightly bunched, within 10 seconds of each other.  With a WNW wind blowing a 3 on the harbour wall anything could happen. After all we did have the Topper in the race this week!

The race continued in tight formation out to the Bell Buoy still with Rupert Bear in the lead closely followed the Topper and Tuvag in pursuit.

Three Castletown ones, Amy, Gilly and Rosie B, were competing but none were making waves today. The rear was taken up by Rupert in Esk. I can’t help liking that boat!

The only excitement of the day came when the Topper almost tried another up ending and Tuvags crew got a bit wet trying a similar fete.

All in all the race became rather lack lustre as the wind dropped off with Rupert Bear maintaining the lead throughout the race, taking line honours at 1hr 1min 18secs. Well done to the boys in the Topper who came second over the line and Tuvag third.

Corrected times;  the Cregeen Cup went to Rupert Bear and runner up was the Topper.

Thanks go to Tony Sloan for opening the bridge.
